The editorial board will blindly review abstract submissions of academic contributions (original research and/or review papers) from the humanities, sciences, and social sciences. Please submit your abstracts directly to [email protected] by the end of Hilary Term. The Editor-in-Chief will personally ensure that the titles are rendered anonymous for review and selection by the editorial board.

We welcome applications for editors in Science, Social Science, Humanities, and Book/Film/Theatre reviews. Please send a short (max 300w) description of yourself to [email protected] answering the following questions:
- Why are you interested in editing for STAAR?
- Which editor position do you wish to apply for and what is your background in this area?
- Do you have any relevant experience in editing (not essential)?
Publication of STAAR Volume 12
We are thrilled to announce the publication of Volume 12 after a hiatus of several years! The issue is now available online, with printed copies set to arrive within a week. Call for a Journal Designer
St. Anne’s Academic Review is seeking a skilled Journal Designer to assist with the design and production of Issue 12 – 2024. This is an important role in supporting the Editorial Board to ensure the smooth running of the journal, both online and in print.
As a Journal Designer, you will be responsible for finalising the layout of the issue, including formatting and design for both the printed and digital versions of the journal. The role requires proficiency in Apple Pages and Adobe InDesign to bring the final design to life.
This is a paid role, with remuneration to be discussed during the interview process.
Key Dates:
The expected start date is late November or early December 2024, with the work to be completed no later than the end of December 2024.

Even though the call for abstracts has closed, we are still accepting drafts of your academic submissions—either articles or subject reviews—until the 5th of July.
Drafts should be up to 5000 words. If you wish to submit a longer piece, please reach out to the editorial board 📚
We also welcome creative writing, translations, opinion pieces, and SPARK reviews on a rolling basis.

CREATIVE WRITING We are thrilled to announce the publication of STAAR Volume 11, a collection of academic manuscripts, cultural reviews, and creative pieces written and crafted by members of St Anne's College, Oxford. Print copies can be purchased for £10 apiece.
Firework Competition 2021 results announcedThe votes are in, and we have our Firework winners for the 2020-21 academic year!
First prize goes to Augusta Nannerini for "Bullshit Jobs: A Review," a piece examining David Graeber's 2018 book on Western conceptions of work through the lens of the Covid-19 pandemic. Julia Merican takes second with "Cosmopolitan Reveries: Elegy, Epicurianism, and Exclusion in Zweig's The World of Yesterday," which explores a twentieth-century memoir in light of present-day developments. Both reviewers have been awarded a small cash prize by the St Anne's College MCR in recognition of their stand-out work.
All Spark Reviews published in Vol. 11 of STAAR, whether online or in print, were automatically entered as candidates in the 2021 Firework Competition. Winners were selected by journal staff who were not involved in editing the relevant reviews.
